Nov 06, 2007· That's a early model 9J Gorton mill you have there. The one I had was a 1938 vintage, very close to the one you are looking at. Mill definitly has No. 10 BS taper in the spindle. Looking at your pictures, it may have the collet adapter in the spindle for the gorton collets. XY feed is common on these mills.

Jul 01, 2003· A very cool feature, I would say. One great feature of the Gorton, is the spindle spline lash adjuster. This makes boring chatter free. I have used many BP Jhead mills for boring holes, and I can see the rigidity limitation and the noise that comes from spline lash. The Gorton seems superior in this area. I could go on, but I gotta go for now.

May 04, 2014· That looks like a standard Gorton 9J mill. Looks like all the feeds are manual including quill down feed. The 9J is a bull of a machine with uncommon accuracy, precision, rigidity, and quality. You can take stupid big cuts and it'll take it all day but the quality is so good you can use it the rest of the week as a jig borer.
